Karen Macdonald is the station manager and news director at Global News for Quebec. A graduate of Concordia University’s Communication Studies department, she worked as a newspaper and television reporter and previously served as news director for Global News in both Quebec City and Montreal.
She has produced news coverage of numerous budgets, elections at all levels, and the 2001 Quebec City Summit of the Americas, but vows she loves community news best. For 15 years, she and her husband François Vézina co-owned and co-published the Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph, North America’s oldest newspaper.
She is the recipient of the Quebec City YWCA Women of Merit Award in Communications, Queen’s Jubilee Medal for Community Service, and the RTDNA Lifetime Achievement Award.
Karen is a past chair of the board of directors of Centraide Quebec-Chaudières-Appalaches where she was also a campaign co-chair. A lifetime volunteer, she has served on numerous non-profit boards including those of Centraide du Grand Montréal and the Fondation communautaire du Grand Québec and is currently on the board of directors of the Fondation du Grand Montréal. Karen is also a ringette coach.
