United Way Centraide Canada releases 2024 Annual report: National network, local solutions driving community impact

Ottawa, ON – As a national network of local experts, mobilizing close to $600 million in over 5,000 communities from coast to coast to coast, the United Way Centraide network supports more than 3,800 local service organizations that help meet community needs and tackle complex social issues at the root of these needs.

United Way Centraide Canada is pleased to release our 2024 Annual Report which shares our key accomplishments in 2024 including:

  • The 211 service, for which United Way Centraide Canada is a proud founding partner, responded to over 620,000 calls, emails, texts and chats, plus supporting more than 4 million website visits to access local resources, including emergency relief supports.
  • United Way Centraide Canada was one of three national organizations delivering a $400million investment by the Government of Canada. Alongside our network of United Way Centraides, we completed the successful implementation of the Community Services Recovery Fund (CSRF) with a focus on supporting program innovation and transformation, benefiting 1,683 community initiatives.
  • In 2023, United Way Centraide Canada secured a grant of $1.5 million from the McConnell Foundation to develop a comprehensive Labour Force Strategy focused on uplifting and protecting the well-being of paid workers in the care economy within the community services sector.

This year, the United Way Centraide network worked in partnership with members of the public, private and social services sectors to:

  • Invest over $38 million in housing and shelter programs across the country, helping 379,000 people experiencing or at risk of homelessness access housing-specific support.
  • Strengthen food security across Canada; United Way Centraides invested $29 million to help 1.6 million people access nutritious food.
  • Devote more than $16M in learning and education, including $14M in school success programs and $2.5M in literacy supports for over 183,000 people, helping kids across Canada realize a brighter future.
  • Invest $39M to support the development of healthy relationships, including over $24M in family-based supports and $5.6M, supporting over 87,000 people experiencing domestic, gender-based or intimate partner violence.
  • Help family thrive and build resilience in the face of life’s challenges; United Way Centraides invested $24M in family-based supports, including $17M in family-based services and $3M in family resource centres, impacting over 480,000 people with this investment.
