Karen Macdonald

Board Chair

Karen Macdonald’s 40 + career in journalism focused on leadership roles in Quebec’s English-speaking community in both Quebec City, where she grew up, and Montreal. Karen retired from Global News in 2024, allowing her more time to garden and volunteer. Along with her work in television, Karen was the owner and publisher of North America’s oldest newspaper, the Quebec City based Chronicle-Telegraph for more than a decade. She funds the Karen Macdonald Award in journalism at her alma mater, Concordia University, awarded annually to a deserving Indigenous or Black student. Corus Entertainment has also announced the creation of a scholarship awarded by the Radio, Television and Digital News Association in her honour. Prior to joining the board of United Way Centraide Canada Karen served on the boards of Centraide of Greater Montreal and Centraide Québec et Chaudière-Appalaches. She is currently the chair of the Foundation of Greater Montreal.
