James Cherry is a Montréal native and graduate of McGill University. He is a chartered accountant who has over 35 years of experience in general management, project management and financial management in the International Aerospace, Defence and Rail sectors.
Over this period he has worked in senior executive positions with Bombardier Inc., Oerlikon Aerospace Inc., CAE Inc. and ALSTOM Canada.
He joined Aéroports de Montréal as President and Chief Executive Officer in June 2001, and was a member of the Board of Directors of Aéroports de Montréal. He served as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Airports Council, of Airports Council International World and Airports Council International-North America. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Conference Board of Canada, Logistec Corporation and Cogeco Inc., and served on the Board of Directors of Montreal International until 2014.
James Cherry is retired from Aéroports de Montréal since December 2016, after 15 years at the Corporation’s helm. ADM has experienced continuous growth under his leadership.
James Cherry has also been actively involved at Centraide of Greater Montréal for nearly 20 years. A member of the Board of Governors, he served on Centraide’s Board of Directors from 2006 to 2014, including as Treasurer, Vice-Chair and Chair from 2012 to 2014. He has been a member of the Centraide of Greater Montreal Foundation and has also served several times on the Campaign Cabinet as Transportation Division Director. He is the Co-Chair of the 2017 Centraide of Greater Montreal fundraising campaign, with Louis Audet, President of COGECO Inc. James Cherry was the recipient of the 2015 Michèle Thibodeau-DeGuire Award, recognizing his outstanding involvement.
James Cherry is deeply involved in the Montréal community. He has been a member and the Chairman of the St. Mary’s Hospital Board of Directors until 2015 and has also served on the Board of Directors of Concordia University from 2007 to 2013.
