Against the vibrant backdrop of Halifax, Nova Scotia, United Way Centraide leaders from across the country came together April 21-22, at Leading Forward 2026 to celebrate the people, partnerships, and organizations shaping the future of our Movement. One of the conference’s most meaningful moments was the presentation of the 2025 United Way Centraide Canada (UWCC) National Recognition Awards, a biennial opportunity to honour exceptional contributors that embody our shared vision, mission and values.
This year’s award recipients reflect the strength, diversity, and impact of the UWC network, from dedicated volunteers and innovative staff leaders to Labour and corporate partners whose commitment improves lives in communities nationwide.
The André Mailhot Award, the Movement’s highest national volunteer honour, was presented to Stephanie Pankratz, former Board Chair of United Way of Calgary and Area. Stephanie’s lifelong commitment to community service, philanthropy, and inclusive leadership exemplifies the generosity of spirit and deep sense of responsibility that defined André Mailhot’s legacy. Her influence has strengthened both local impact and the broader Movement.

The George Hart Award for Excellence, UWCC’s highest staff honour, recognized Liz Marshall, Executive Lead, Strategic Partnerships at United Way Greater Toronto. Liz’s visionary leadership, expertise, and collaborative approach have made a lasting contribution to strategic partnerships locally and nationally, helping advance the Movement’s collective impact with clarity and purpose.

The UWC Leader of the Future Award was awarded to Gwladys Sebogo, Executive Director of Centraide Estrie. Early in her career, Gwladys has distinguished herself through her future‑oriented leadership, ability to build strong networks, and unwavering commitment to advancing United Way Centraide’s mission. Her presence at the conference, alongside Board Chair Christèle Gran‑Villeneuve, underscored the importance of nurturing emerging leaders across the network.

The National Partnership Builder Award celebrated the North Eastern Ontario Area Council of Steelworkers (NEOAC) for its longstanding partnership with United Way Centraide. Representatives Eric Delparte, Stephanie Gunson, and Tina Vincent‑Gagnon accepted the award on behalf of an organization that exemplifies the shared values of the Labour movement and United Way Centraide, mobilizing collective energy to strengthen communities.

Finally, the National Community Champion Award was presented to Edmonton Power Corporation (EPCOR), recognizing the organization’s exemplary commitment to improving communities through fundraising, engagement, and corporate leadership. Gillian Adams, Senior Manager of Corporate Marketing, accepted the award on EPCOR’s behalf during the conference’s evening reception.

The achievements recognized at Leading Forward 2026 highlighted the extraordinary people and partnerships driving impact across Canada. Together, these award winners remind us of what is possible when leadership, collaboration, and community come together to create lasting change. Congratulations to all the award recipients!
